Kara Woods is a certified trainer with The Academy of Home Staging.  This year, she is offering The Academy's industry-leading Advanced Home Stager Certification Training to students in New York City.

The 40-plus hours of instruction include classroom discussions, workshops, and hands-on staging of three homes. Classes are limited in size to ensure personal attention and development. Upon completion of the course, you will receive your certification in home staging and redesign, all of the core materials, and information and business templates to start your own home staging business.

What Will I Learn at The Academy?

DAY 1

Express your career desires and goals! This will help Kara personally guide and assist you throughout the training.
 She will also discuss home staging tips, work with you on two accessory exercises, and help you create a design style board.

DAY 2


Explore space planning and complete a six-part space planning exercise.  You will also learn, step by step, how to stage a room, charge for a redesign staging service, and redesign a real home using what the homeowner already owns.

DAY 3


Discover color theory and how to select paint colors.  You will also learn how to price, space plan, and estimate a vacant home staging. A representative from a furniture rental company will talk about furniture rental and using the rental system. Then you will go into the field and prepare a mock bid on a vacant home. The Academy is the only school in the nation to teach the home staging process in the field.

DAY 4


Discuss how and what to charge for consulting services and work on a real home where you will prepare a consultation report. Kara will role play and compare everyone's ideas and solutions for the home. This live, classroom instruction enables students to participate while learning from others' experiences. 

DAY 5


The last day covers remaining business topics, including contracts, proposals, phone scripts, obtaining and retaining a client base, a step-by-step plan for launching a business, advertising, marketing, the Internet, social networking, and insurance.  Kara will also share a little-known insurance secret (which most established home stagers do not know) that may save you a few thousand dollars every year. 

At the end of the session, you will have earned the coveted Advanced Home Stager Certification (AHSC).  As an Advanced Home Stager, you will be equipped with a 30-day, start-up agenda and all the skills needed to begin staging homes.
